Driving ZEB integration
From trial to transformation: delivering zero emission bus networks that work
State governments across Australasia are setting ambitious targets to transition their bus networks to zero emissions. Busways is an experienced delivery partner, working with governments and building the operational models that will underpin long-term and large-scale transition.
From our first trials to current depot conversions and large-scale fleet deployment, we’ve demonstrated that the transition to new fleet technology is best achieved through a partnership and shared learning approach.

ZERO EMISSION
BUS FLEET BY 2034
TARGET
(1,500+ ZEBs)
Driving ZEB integration into bus contracts
Busways works alongside government to translate policy objectives into safe, reliable ZEB operations, with honed capabilities from end-to-end:

Technology selection
Benchmarking options in local conditions to ensure the best value, reliability and lifespan.

Transition planning
Scheduling infrastructure upgrades to maximise value and integrate with evolving technology.

Smart charging
Developing a dynamic load management system that charges buses efficiently and cost-effectively while protecting the grid.

ZEB transition
Watch the transition of the Busways Penrith depot go from a fuel depot to an electric bus depot with the installation of our electric charging gantries.

Vehicle choice
Selecting models suited to local climate, topography and operational needs.

Depot design
Creating ZEB-ready facilities with optimised charger placement, bus movements and safety systems.

Workforce readiness
Training drivers, maintenance teams
and operational teams to operate and maintain new technologies safely
and effectively.

“One of the biggest challenges in ZEB deployment is managing risk: from depot infrastructure and grid capacity through to fleet procurement and performance. Our role has been to de-risk that transition for government by testing, learning and building scalable solutions.”
